African-American Insurance Agent Was Not Retaliated Against On Basis Of Race
In this
case, the United States District Court held that an
insurance company's denial of an African-American
independent insurance agent's promotion to a division sales leader position and
nonrenewal of his contract did not constitute retaliation, under § 1981, based
on the agent's complaints to supervisors about the lack of African-American
division sales leaders. The complaints were not causally linked to such adverse
actions by the decisionmakers, who either did not know about the complaints or
whose decisions were not made until over three months later.
